Tapas time

Tapas and beer in the terrace, at the plaza down the street.  Hope winter doesn't come too early!

Summer festivals in el pueblo

Almost every Spanish town, which can be as small as 300 inhabitants, has a summer festival, usually comprised of:

Outside music/dancing/concert
Food
Games
And bulls.  Bulls!

Take a look at the pics. One shows you two houses with their doors halfway boarded up with a metal-looking gate which is to protect the houses while the bulls run by.

Teruel ceramics

The green and white design on this ceramic set is typical from Teruel, a provincial capital the province of Aragon.

If you notice, this set has "miguel angel" and "conchita" on it. This was part of a wedding gift to the bride and groom on their wedding day. It's also common for the couple to give small ceramic pieces with their names and wedding/communion/etc date as favors to their guests.

Arroz a banda

My first attempt at "arroz a banda"

Region: Spain, Valencia
Category: Rice, Couscous, and Other Grains
Difficulty: Labor Intensive

Arròs a banda is a very old preparation from Valencia. As with so many dishes, it begins with a sofregit, like the Italian soffritto, a mixture of onions, garlic, and other ingredients sautéed in olive oil before the addition of the remaining ingredients; in this case, a rich fish broth is added to be absorbed by the rice. A banda means “apart” in Valencian, meaning the rice is served first and apart from the fish, which is served as a second course. It is traditionally served with allioli, a pungent garlic mayonnaise.

Toyota-ing in Spain

What treatment for a somewhat-used car!  Love the cover, although of course that stays with the dealer.  I convinced the dealer to include a bottle of wine from the region so as to baptize my new baby  (Toyota Yaris)....named "Yago" which is "Diego" in Galician dialect.
